Since 2021 eruptions of lava flows from fissures keep occurring, most recently in the inhabited Svartsengi-Grindavík area. National Geographic Poland asked me to explain the why and how, and what volcanologists expect there is in store for locals. Spoiler: probably centuries of intermittent eruptions and uncertainty if the past is any hint towards the future.
